“In 20 seconds, thousands of lives and dreams were destroyed in Haiti. Let’s help rebuild it:
20 seconds at a time”

PechaKucha, in collaboration with Architecture for Humanity, are putting a project together to help with the reconstruction in Haiti. This is a global initiative including 200 PechaKucha cites, 2000 presentations, 200,000 people with a target of raising $1,000,000 for Architecture for Humanity! PechaKucha GBG will participate and help out through the two activities below. But we need your help!

Activities

FEBRUARY 20thPechaKucha Global Day for Haiti
On this Saturday there will be a global wave of PechaKucha 20×20 presentations circling the globe for Haiti. One presentation from each of the 200 cities, all streamed live online during the 24 hour event. PechaKucha GBG will in collaboration with 365 things you can do produce a best-of presentation on the topic “20 things you can do to help Haiti” and we need your help! We are currently looking for ideas that can be presented in 20 seconds and included in the presentation. If you have an idea, or would like to recommend someone you think we should contact, please send us an email at: navid@365saker.se

FEBRUARY 23thPecha Kucha GBG vol #18
On this Tuesday we will arrange our Pecha Kucha GBG vol #18 event at Park Lane starting 19:30. The event will include special presentations regarding Haiti and what you can do to help, as well as regular presentations. We will also arrange a fundraiser trying to raise money for Architecture for Humanity. It’s free entrance as always, but please consider bringing money for the cause. Our goal is to raise 50.000 SEK from Gothenburg.

Contribute

We challenge all creative minds, companies and institutions in Gothenburg to come up with ideas regarding how we can help Haiti. This could mean ideas regarding fundraising, social design, architecture/design, environment, use of resources, economy, culture, creativity and so on… You can contribute in four ways:
  1. Spread the word about this page and the initiative. Perhaps you can blog about it, post it on Facebook or twitter, email your friends or why not speak to them?

  2. Come up with ideas for our “20 things you can do to help Haiti” presentation on Feb 20th where you get 20 seconds to describe an idea. Email navid@365saker.se if you have an idea, or would like to recommend someone you think we should contact in the matter.

  3. 20×20 Presentations for our event on Feb 23th, preferably about Haiti and/or what we can do to help. Ideas and suggestions can be emailed to jesper@ncmab.se

  4. Donate money to our fundraiser for Architecture For Humanity. Do it by bringing cash to out event at Park Lane on Feb 23th, opens 19:30 or donate online through PayPal by clicking here. Please read below why you should donate.

Information

Content – not only cash!
There are quite a few things that run around the world online raising money for Haiti. We do this as well but the big difference is we generate content too, for everyone to view online on the PechaKucha Presentation Player. Ideas get summarized, indexed, searchable, and accessible all over the globe – which might become a useful resource after possible future catastrophes.

Where does all the money go?
All the money raised goes directly to Architecture for Humanity (AFH) and their projects to rebuild Haiti. At AFH, 12% of the money goes to fundraising outreach and administrative costs and 88% is spent on design and construction services. But since AFH have already covered the design costs regarding Haiti, all the funds raised in the PechaKucha initiative will be spent on reconstruction. Not PechaKucha GBG, nor PechaKucha Global charges any administrative costs.
